OUR GLOBAL IDENTITY

The development agenda of the country should be thoroughly articulated, following an inclusive process of consultation, and used as the basis for engaging with external partners.

Overseas Missions have critical roles to play in mobilizing support for programmes and cultivating allies in international negotiating arenas. Therefore, they should always be staffed with competent and skilled individuals.

Appointments to head Overseas Missions should be open and transparent and the persons chosen to represent the country should be of the highest integrity.

Government should cultivate strategic relationships with development partners and allied governments to facilitate the achievement of its development goals.

Understanding that on its own, the country will have limited ability to achieve its sustainable development agenda, the Government should make a strong commitment to the process of regional integration and functional cooperation.

The country must play an active role in organizations that promote the cause of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) such as the OECS, CARICOM and the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), and be constructively engaged in international fora to ensure that the development prospects of SIDS are not constrained are negatively impacted by international treaties or agreements.

Saint Lucians who are resident overseas are a valuable but under-utilized asset.  Every effort must be made to constructively engage the diaspora in advancing the development agenda of the country.
